The number of global students transitioning to Canadian PR is growing – and the numbers could rise sharply in the year 2018.
Canada Federal government numbers for 2017 observe 9,410 applicants who earlier held Study Permits as global students became permanent residents, up from 8,250 in the year 2016.
Meantime, in 2017, 36% of all Invitations to Apply announced by Express Entry went to candidates with a Canada education credential. This 36% translates to 30,600 previous foreign students announced with ITA's for Canada immigration process.
Meanwhile, an I.T.A does not assure a strong application, if even half of that number moved on to become permanent residents in the year 2018, it would still serve a significant increase.
The expanded numbers come as a consequence of a clear federal government plan to bring more global students and drive them to stay after completing graduation. The transition of Study Permits to Post-Graduate Work Permits, and then PR and Canadian citizenship, Canada has started reforms designed to attract international students.
From primary to the level of post-graduate, in 2017 there were around 494,525 global students in Canada. The objective had been to approach an global student population of 450,000 by 2022.
Meantime, the U.S., which brings the most global students, is noticing a decline in numbers. Statistics show a 4% decline in the post-graduates and undergraduates number in the U.S., from 840,160 in the year 2016 to 808,640 in the year 2017.
Surveys reveal admissions of three-quarters controls in U.S. schools feel the policies of Trump’s administration have done it more challenging to attract global students. Canada is sat over the border with significantly welcoming stance, and the numbers show it is getting the rewards.
