Austria Added In The Work And Holiday Visa List Of Australia

The Nationals of Austria are now eligible to apply for the Work and Holiday visa belonging to the Subclass 462. This permits the youth of Austria to seek a holiday in Australia, and also undertake short-term work or pursue their studies.

The temporary visa encourages closer ties and cultural exchanges between Australia and other countries.

The Features of the Visa allows are:

•        Allowing a stay in Australia for 12 months
•        Allowing work in Australia, for six months with each employer
•        Pursuing studies for four months
•        Leaving and re-entering Australia several times when the visa is valid
•      allowing to apply for a second Work and Holiday visa after working for three months in Northern Australia in the sectors of agriculture, forestry and fishing or tourism and hospitality.

Norms and Requirements

In order to get this visa a person must be:

•    At least 18 years of age and not beyond 31 years
•    Not have an accompanying dependent child during any period of stay in Australia
•    Have a passport from Austria, Argentina, Bangladesh, China, Chile, Hungary, Israel, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Peru, Malaysia, Portugal, Poland, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Singapore, Spain, Slovenia, Turkey, Thailand, Uruguay, USA, and Vietnam

Prior to applying for First Work and Holiday visa, the applicant must be outside Australia.

For the Second Work and Holiday visa when the applicant applies in Australia, he/she must be in Australia at the time of the grant of this visa. In case of applying from outside Australia, the applicant must be outside Australia at the time of the grant of this visa.

Visa limits

An annual limit has been assigned to the number of first Work and Holiday visas to be given to each country. Further applications will not be approved after reaching this limit and the candidates must wait for the following year to submit an application. The date of commencement of visa program in each year is 1^st July.

Another point to note is that for the nationals of Bangladesh, China, Israel, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, Thailand and Vietnam, the Immigration Office located outside Australia which processes these applications can inform about the number of visas available.

The Americas Service Centre must be contacted for Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Chile, and Portugal. The Europe Service Centre must be contacted for Hungary, Austria, Luxembourg, San Marino, Poland, Slovak Republic, Spain, and Slovenia.

For the second Work and Holiday visas to be given each year there is no limit on the numbers.

Passport

A valid passport which is issued by an eligible country for this visa is compulsory. In case a new passport is needed, do so prior to applying for the visa. The visa is linked to the number appearing on passport used in the application.

No further stay condition

Aspirants cannot apply for this visa if they hold another visa which has a condition of ‘No further stay’.
